Prayer Request From Marguerite Havard

Today marks the one year anniversary of my bone marrow transplant. At the time, my medical team described the treatment as “rigorous”; which I later found to be an understatement! The after-effects proved overwhelming physically, emotionally and spiritually, and I was insufficient to meet the challenge.
Yet our God, Who promised Isaac “I will be with you”, was also with me. Each moment was full with assurance of His presence. And He proved sufficient for the challenge He had given. Now at a year-spaced retrospect, I would say He proved abundant. While bringing remission of cancer He increased joy in Him.
Please join John and me in praising God for His answer to our prayers, His answer to your prayers. We thank the Lord for your part in His abundant provision as you cared for us. Romans 15:5-6 says “May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Church, He is always worthy of our praise.

Prayer Request From Jennifer Neal

Please pray for my mom, Melodee. She broke her femur back in July just walking. She had surgery where the put in a titanium metal plate. She had been recovering well and going to physical therapy 3 times a week. Then unexpectedly the plate broke causing her femur to break again. She had to start the process of healing all over again. This second time we have had insurance issues and other crazy challenges. She is the primary care giver for my dad, Ernie, who has CMT and keeps him in a wheelchair outside of the home. During this craziness my dad fell and hurt his knee. We are thankful that both of them are staying with us for the next couple weeks as we begin physical therapy in our home for Mom. Please pray that Melodee will get stronger each day, that she will not have so much anxiety that it will break a third time, that we can all get along together well in our home, that her recovery will be quick and strong, and that my dad will stay healthy and safe through this process.

Prayer Request From Ann Brown

Please continue to pray for my niece, Amy, Ed, Charlee and my sister Jeanne and her husband, Mike, as they grieve the loss of Little Riley. I spoke with Amy on Thanksgiving and she is in such shock. This is beyond horrible and my heart just aches for them. The Lord is "close to the brokenhearted" Also pray for Amy and Ed's marriage. They have been married for 13 years and their bond is strong but I know from volunteering at Riley Hospital that these events can take a toll on couples.

Please pray for my niece, her husband Ed and my sister and brother-in-law, Mike and Jeanne Dickman. Their 3 year old daughter, and granddaughter tragically fell out of a 4 story window last Sunday and has passed away. The Celebration of Life honoring Riley will be Nov 5th at 1:00 pm in Tampa. Please pray for their other daughter Charlee who is 8 years old and witnessed the fall. This is a very difficult time for our family as we are still in shock. They are believers and feel the prayers of many.

Prayer Request From Marguerite Havard

Blessed be the LORD! For He has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy. The LORD is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to Him. Psalm 28:6-7
Today we met with my oncologist and he shared with us that my cancer is in remission. Praise our mighty Lord for His healing power! Our joy will be complete as you, our faithful church family who have prayed and ministered to us, now praise God with us. We know He will continue to heal and strengthen me as I recover from the transplant and chemo side effects.
With love in Christ,
Marguerite and John Havard

Prayer Request From John & Marguerite Havard

Dear Church Family,

We greatly appreciate your ongoing prayers for us as Marguerite continues treatment for Multiple Myeloma. We’re now in the stem cell transplant phase of treatment which will eliminate her current bone marrow and cancer cells there, followed by infusion of her own stem cells which will grow new bone marrow. The aim is to achieve deep remission, which will hopefully last 10 - 15 years. This week she has many pre-transplant procedures. Today’s placement of the central line went very well and we clearly saw God had gone before us. :)
On April 26 she’ll be admitted to hospital and receive a strong chemotherapy drug. The following day she’ll be infused with her stem cells from storage. The next few weeks will be spent in hospital to treat the severe side effects and monitor/prevent infection. Recovery at home will follow. We’d appreciate your prayers specifically for strength and protection, wisdom for medical staff, quick stem cell engraftment and restoration of bone marrow, joy in the waiting through months of suppressed immune system and fatigue.
Please continue to pray Psalm 73:28 - that we would have the conviction to testify as God gives opportunity. Praise the Lord for the peace He gives!
Thank you for your prayers and care for us!!

Prayer Request From Marguerite Havard

Dear Church!
This week I started my third cancer treatment cycle. Only two months of chemo remain. Then, if the myeloma protein doesn’t show in blood tests, the next step is another bone marrow biopsy. If it shows zero cancer cells present, remission has been achieved. If cancer cells are found, autologous stem cell transplant is a possible next step.
My latest lab tests show the chemotherapy and targeted monoclonal antibody treatments have been very effective. I praise God for giving the medical community the tools to develop these amazing medicines.
While medicine side effects can be tough, God’s grace is tougher! I’m in awe of God’s peace. He gives without measure. He has protected me from worry and fear and filled me with joyful, expectant hope. I’m also learning that He is always worthy of my worship at all times in all circumstances.
John and I are humbled by the many prayers being made for us. Thank you. How precious is the body of Christ!
As we continue to look to God for healing, please continue to pray in light of Psalm 73:28 But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may tell of all Your works.

Thank you church for your prayers and notes. We praise God for you. Praise the Lord with us that my first cycle of chemo treatments showed great progress toward eliminating cancer cells. My oncologist was even able to tweak treatments to hopefully provide more protection of my immune system. I began the second cycle of chemo yesterday with most of the pneumonia symptoms gone. God be praised! Please continue to pray for a quick return to strength following each treatment, strengthened back/alleviation from pain, protection from illness for both John and I, continued wisdom for my medical care team. The verse on my heart remains Psalm 73:28-
But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may tell of all Your works.
Thank you :)

Thank you for helping bear our burdens! Your prayers are a sweet aroma to the Lord and are part of the works of God that we can testify. (Psalm 73:28) Early Thursday morning Marguerite became quite sick, very fast and has been in hospital with pneumonia and sepsis. Our elders & Small Group have been praying. God’s faithfully answered.
Praise God for His presence, guidance, provision. Pray for healing of M’s lungs, IV infiltrations, cancer. Pray for wisdom for M’s oncologist as he makes treatment decisions. Pray for protection for both John and M from any viruses going around. Praise that this illness occurred during the week of rest they give patients inbetween chemo cycles. M should begin next chemo cycle Dec 28. M should be released from hospital by tomorrow. We plan to quarantine for a while now. We pray with you that all of our hearts might be bent toward our God Who worked the wonders of salvation by giving His One and Only Son.

Dear Church Family,

Please join us in prayer as Marguerite begins chemotherapy treatment this week for Multiple Myeloma (cancer of plasma cells in bone marrow). We’re so thankful for God’s clear leading in medical decisions and for His supernatural peace.
Treatment is initially planned for four months. We’re asking God for strength and energy for Marguerite to continue working in the LifeCenter. Pray for our faithfulness as Christ’s ambassadors to those in the cancer center clinic, to our family members and neighbors. We’re asking Him to bring the cancer into remission quickly and for complete healing, with no lasting negative side effects. Pray for John for wisdom and perseverance as a caretaker.
Thank you for your prayers - the Lord hears and answers!

I'm asking for prayers on behalf of my best friend, Cami. She's a part of our youth group; she's been experiencing immense stress over figuring out how to help her family with rent, bills, and a contract fee for a job opportunity. We're praying that this opportunity to help her family becomes available to her and, more importantly, that she and her family can trust in God to provide for them. She's been praying diligently and keeping her heart near God. She would love and appreciate your prayers.

I would greatly appreciate your prayers. Since my fall in 2020, things have been difficult. I have almost no feeling in my left leg and most days I am in pain in my back and neck because of arthritis setting in. I am finally starting to realize that the Lord has plans for me that are not what I had in mind. Life is changing and it is difficult to accept at times. I am praying about moving to Tennessee to be near my 2nd son and the grandchildren there. It will be my final move in life and I love the South and I have never been near my 6 grandchildren there. Looking at selling my home and finding one in Johnson City as I do not want to rent in between.

He has had 2 MRIs, a CT scan, blood work, Xrays, and a spinal tap so far. Tests showed several white spots in his spinal cord near the brain stem, but the cause is a mystery.
Pray Requests for Ukraine

As the crisis in Ukraine continues to escalate, Alfie and Julie (who lived in Odessa, Ukraine for many years) have shared with me some specific ways you can be praying:

1. Pray for our own SEND team in Ukraine which is moving across the border to Poland soon.

2. Please pray for churches to be the hands and feet of Christ, lights on the darkness. Many Ukrainians are moving west, but have no where to go. The family (with their two young boys) in our own apartment in Odessa so far will be sheltering in place.

3. Please pray for many MK's either in Ukraine and evacuating with family or who are older living in their passport countries and worrying about parents, friends, the home they left.

4. Pray for peace, the protection of God's image bearers, and the gospel to bring hope to those in despair.

Thank you, church!

My close friend, Susie Dobson, has been in the ICU almost three weeks with severe Covid. She's had so many medical issues! This evening, her pulmonologist told her without intubating her and putting her on a vent she's not going to live (she's 65). Her lungs are not recovering. Please pray that her lungs heal and that she certainly doesn't die! This is quite a turn of events. I've been in the ICU with her every day (I'm her POA) until I got Covid a week ago. Ugh. Too much to process. Thank you for praying!

I would request that you please pray for my dad who has been hospitalized since Thursday 12/2 with covid pneumonia, bacterial pneumonia, and has not seen great improvement yet. In addition to healing, would you pray that I would be able to advocate well for him since in Michigan they won't allow visitors, and for the doctors to have wisdom to give the best treatment. We've already been greatly supported, but would ask for continued prayers.

Thank you, church, for praying for our daughter, Micah Joy, as we navigate, with her, the confusing world of healthcare in search of the right doctors to support Micah with her ASD diagnosis and with a number of co-morbidities connected to it.
Prayer Request From Marguerite Havard

Dear Church Family,
We began today with Psalm 145 and have seen its evidence throughout. God supplied courage for the tough moments and encouragement from unexpected sources. I had zero issues with the general anesthesia and am currently still benefiting from the localized nerve block. No cancer was detected and my surgeon stated all went very well. We’re so very grateful for your care and prayers. Thank you.

We're privileged to intercede for our church family in these requests on the Prayer Wall.
We ask that you pray along with us for Marguerite's surgery the morning of January 21 to address her recent diagnosis of 'complex atypical hyperplasia'. We're thankful for God's pervading peace during this time and the many evidences of His grace. Please pray for her surgical team: unity, precision, joy in using the skills God's given them. Pray for accuracy in determination of presence/absence of cancer. Pray for strength and joy for those who're stepping into our various responsibilities during the recovery period. We're asking the Lord for healing and a return to full strength for Marguerite. Thank you family of God!

I recently learned that I have "spots" on my lungs that may be calcified nodules, tumors, or signs of a lung disease. This was providentially caught when I was getting an x-ray of my spine and neck. I am scheduled for pulmonary function tests on Feb. 11 and see a pulmonologist Feb. 15. I am continuing to cope with symptoms from a neurological/vestibular issue. I would appreciate prayers for accurate diagnosis & treatment. Please also pray for endurance. I am trusting in the waiting.

Prayer Request From Jan Mathews

Please pray for my friend’s daughter Bethany. They are going to start the treatment for her Aplastic Anemia on Monday. She will be in the hospital for 5 days while they nuke her T cells with a treatment called ATG (Anti-Thymocyte Globulin). Her T cells are the ones killing her bone marrow, so knocking them out will give her bone marrow the chance to start growing again.

After she goes home, she will start on the next stage of treatment: an immune suppression medication to limit T cell activity (Cyclosporine) and a medication which tells her bone marrow stem cells to grow (Promacta). Those can be taken at home. (Also, for the first month she’ll be severely immune compromised, so she’ll be taking preventative antibiotics and etc).

If all goes well, her bone marrow should start re-growing. That means her blood counts should start getting better and she might no longer need blood transfusions in as short a time as 4-6 weeks.

Please pray that her reaction to the ATG is on the weaker end (it gives you variable amounts of serum sickness). Also that the drug treatments do what they are intended to do. Pray that she doesn’t get any infections while in the hospital, or while she is immune compromised afterwards.

Sorry for the lengthy request...thank you for praying!

Prayer Request From Eric Swanson

Here is the prayer we prayed and delivered to the healthcare workers that Pastor Tommy mentioned this morning. Would you pray it with us?

To All The Heroes At Community East,

We want to thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your tireless work amidst this present crisis. Our church strongly desires to express how grateful we are for your personal sacrifice and your care for those who are suffering.

May this meal in a small way bring strength to you both physically and spiritually, knowing that there are people interceding, before God, on your behalf.

Here is our prayer for you all:

Protection: Heavenly Father, we ask you to protect the health care workers at Community East Hospital. We ask that you guard them both body and soul from the horrors of this pandemic. Protect them from discouragement and renew their hope each day knowing that the God who made them is their shield.

Presence: Father, many of these men and women are being asked to be present with those who are dying alone. Lord, as they are providing their presence to the suffering, would You remind them that You are an ever-present help in trouble. Be near to them in moments that are overwhelming, and may Your Spirit give them wisdom in these weighty moments.

Peace: Lastly, when these men and women go home to bed each night, with the weight of the world on their shoulders, we ask that You grant them Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Father, You sent Your Son Jesus to bring peace to our hearts, and so we ask that these servants feel & know this peace now and forevermore.

If anyone would desire to talk to a pastor about the burdens you are carrying, we are more than willing to help carry those burdens.

May the God of Peace grant you His peace and hope today.

Please pray for Bethany, the 29-year-old daughter of a precious friend of mine and sister in Christ. Bethany was recently diagnosed with aplastic anemia. Doctors say she will need a bone marrow transplant. They are trying to find a match now. Please pray for her protection through this process, as the doctors have recommended she go to a hospital that has lower COVID-19 numbers. Pray for her husband and siblings and for my friend and her husband, who are struggling watching their daughter go through this and can’t be with her.

Thank you church family for praying for our daughter Shawna. She started having symptoms earlier in the month and was finally diagnosed as having COVID-19.
Please pray for us (the girls and I) as we will be without Jeff this week. For those of you who may not know this, we serve as missionaries with Cru. On a normal week, Jeff's minor role (not his full job) as a crisis manager is barely a blip on the radar. It has picked up significantly as COIVD-19 has spread. He has been asked to be in Orlando all week to prep the ministry for long term functioning in the coming weeks and months. I'm so glad he is so good at his job, but would love it if he were home. Pray for a glad and peaceful heart as I share him and we all miss him this week. Pray for health and safety as the team works and he travels to where most of the people are. Pray for wisdom for our leaders. We have been encouraged to see how they have walked with Jesus and cared for the staff in the midst of it. Praise God that my mom is able to come from IL to be with us this week!!

He fell early this morning and has a small cut on the back of his head. When he gets confused like this, it can take months before he is back to normal. He is on antibiotics for the infection.
My mom, Mary Tucker, had a terrible fall early Thursday morning. She broke her left wrist. She will have to have surgery. Very bad break. While at ER we discovered that she had two blood clots in her legs that we knew nothing about. They could have moved at any time. This became the primary issue. She was admitted and will have a procedure on Monday to implant a filter that will block any clots head to her heart or lungs. We are so thankful that we found out about the clots, but there will be a long road ahead with rehab and the need for surgery as soon as possible on her wrist. Pray that we will seek out and follow God's guidance as we move forward. Pray also that God will strengthen her body and spirit. Praise and thank God that He made a way for us to discover the clots even though Mom's wrist will be a long recovery. Thank you.

Prayer Request From Judith Toroni

I visited Diane Zeigler Monday at 2:30, her breathing was more labored than when Pastor Eric and I visited her on Sat. Her husband Bob was there and his son Andy and wife Rose flew in from Seattle on Sunday. Bob said if anyone from church wants to visit her they can go any time, but she is not responsive. The son and wife said visitors are encouraging to them. She was alert and reading Scripture beautifully with me just 2 weeks ago- so this is a shock! Her husband said she also has Lewy Body Dementia which he thinks has made the Parkinson's worse and has been very aggressive in her failing health. Seeing her today it looks like her home going will be soon. Please pray for the family- this is very hard on them to see their vibrant wife/mother end like this. Also pray that Bob will be saved. He says he is not a religious man. And pray that he will be willing to have our pastors do the service as Diane loves this church and her church family, even though she could not always be here every Sunday due to health or weather issues. She has said many times that she dearly wants Bob to be with her in eternity with Jesus.

Thank you for praying,
Judith Toroni

Many of you have been asking about the persecution of Early Rain Covenant Church in China. Currently, church members are still being harassed, beaten and imprisoned by the Chinese government. The church is meeting in homes throughout the city, but the police continue to break up their fellowship when they find out where they are meeting. Please continue to pray for our dear brothers and sisters in China.

My friend, Cindy, passed away this morning while on a Caribbean cruise with her sister, Cathy. The cruise was a gift from Cathy to thank Cindy for hosting Cathy's wedding and reception last October. It was a much anticipated thank-you trip between these two very close sisters. Cindy, 49, has battled metastatic breast cancer for five years but was able to travel. Spunkiest, little fighter you've ever seen! She picked up some "bug" on the ship, got very ill with her compromised immune system, and died early this morning. Please pray for her distraught sister Cathy, for all the family and friends in complete shock. The boat doesn't dock until tomorrow morning (Sunday, 9 a.m. in Miami). Pray for funeral plans and getting Cindy back to Indianapolis. Oh my. Thank you so much.

As some of you may have heard on the news this past Saturday (2/2/19), a man riding his ATV on Lake Heritage fell through the ice and drown. He was Brett Crowder, 48, a co-worker of my husband, Bryan, for the past 22 years! They were together on a daily basis, so needless to say, we and all the family and friends are devastated about this tragic accident. The funeral is this Thursday. Please pray for the unsaved family members and friends--that this horrible tragedy would open others' eyes to needing comfort from the Lord so they will turn to Him. Thank you so much.

Update: Early Rain Covenant Church

Last week, Jessica and I were able hear an update from her parents about the persecution of the Chinese church. The persecution by the authorities continues to increase as they are detaining or imprisoning those who try to gather for worship and are even separating families from their children to deter them from gathering as a church. Amidst the heightened persecution, the church continues to find ways to gather in homes and find ways to encourage one another in the Lord. There also stories of how in prison the Chinese believers are witnessing to the guards and inmates that they are in chains for the sake of Christ and people are coming to faith.

Prayer requests:

1. Please pray for physical safety for the families as the Chinese authorities are using forceful methods of intimidation.

2. Please pray for opportunities for the church to gather to encourage one another and be strengthened by the Word without interference.

3. Pray that those in prison would be released. Pray as they wait on the Lord, that the gospel go forth and bear fruit.

Thank you, church!

P.S. Just to be clear, Jessica's parents are American citizens and are now back in the states after being detained for 6+ hours by the Chinese authorities when they tried to enter the country in October. Thanks for praying!

Prayer Request From Eric Swanson

Please pray for my in-laws home church in China. Over 100 pastors, elders and members have been taken by the government and yet they still hold fast to the gospel and gathering together.

Here is a letter from one of the church leaders:

"How the Church Should Face Persecution:

Beloved brothers, sisters, and fellow workers:

Thank the Lord! Just as the year 2018 is about to end God has given us a reward in the form of this large-scale persecution that arrived on December 9.

Since yesterday evening until noon today, over 100 pastors, elders, staff, brothers and sisters have been taken away. As of now we still do not know where they all are, and even if we did know it would be difficult for us to help them. But, thankfully, we know for certain that the Lord’s loving face is shining upon them. They are within the gracious, sovereign providence of the Lord. He will be with them in the midst of their chains and trials.

The Apostle Peter says, “Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.” (1 Pet. 4:12-14)

Beloved brothers and sisters, do you have joy? Are you rejoicing in the fact that you are suffering with Christ because of this church? Do you know that we are blessed? The Lord is bestowing on us poor people today treasures of glory from heaven! The Lord himself is bestowing on us weak people comfort from heaven! The Lord Jesus is shining on us blind people his great light. Those of us brothers and sisters standing on the front lines of the gospel war will earn great spiritual riches!

Thank the Lord for being with us in this trial. Thank the Lord for cultivating us according to his true Word! Thank the Lord for training us through these days of hardship! Thank the Lord for sculpting us through today’s persecution! May the Lord give us great joy and true hope and make us strong through reliance on him.

What these next two days or next few weeks hold we do not know. These days are in the hands of the Lord. Just as he turns the dew into frost and the rain into snow, just as he makes the fragrance of the plum blossom waft across the bitter cold, we are in the hands of the Lord. How wonderful it would be if, because of this suffering, we might be able to give off the sweet fragrance of the gospel!

Beloved brothers and sisters, I’m afraid this “great persecution” will become the status quo for us in the future. I don’t know if you know this, but three years ago on December 9, persecution was officially unleashed against Living Stone Church in Guiyang. Police also went to the homes of those brothers and sisters one at a time. They would use multiple police officers and community workers to control just one person. Their small groups were also broken up one by one. How should we respond to these things in the days to come? According to the contingency plan prepared by our session of elders, there are a few things we must do.

1. Those elders who are still free must take up the responsibility of pastoring the whole church, waiting for the pastor and elders to be released. If Pastor Wang Yi is not released within 48 hours, those elders who are still free must lead the church down the next stretch according to the order decided on previously.

2. Regardless, Early Rain Covenant Church must not alter the statement of faith and the path of openness that it has proclaimed publicly in the past. And we will not alter our previous stance on the relationship between church and state (正教分立) or our beautiful spiritual inheritance from the Chinese house church of walking the path of the cross. We will not register with the Religious Affairs Bureau; much less will we join the Three-Self Church.

3. We will not easily relinquish our church building and retreat to our small groups. Regardless of who is leading the church, they must try to return to the church building that God has given us. Neither paper seals nor arrests should hinder our determination to worship in our church sanctuary. Unless all elders, preachers, and seminary students able to lead public worship and the preaching of God’s word lose their freedom, we will not retreat to small groups. If we cannot enter the church building, we will rent another place. If there is no place indoors where we can worship, we will begin worshiping outdoors.

4. Meeting in small groups is our last resort. If there is even a very small possibility of worshiping together as a whole church, we will not retreat to small groups. But if we must meet in small groups and encounter opposition while doing so, we are willing to pay an even greater price to bear witness to the great work of the gospel in our lives. We are willing to have 200, 300, or 500 people arrested and imprisoned. May the whole world know that we are joyfully willing to receive this persecution for the sake of our faith.

Beloved brothers and sisters, I am writing this letter in “hiding.” May you all be filled with joy in the gospel of Christ. May you welcome, filled with hope, the even heavier cross and more difficult lives that lie ahead of you.

“Christ is Lord. Grace is King. Bear the cross. Keep the faith.” This is the vision Early Rain Covenant Church received from the Lord. May we all obtain it, cherish it, put it into practice, and live it out!

Loving you all,

Elder Yingqiang

The team is not in agreement as to whether their current foster parent should adopt them. I believe another home would be best as does one of their therapists, who is also a Christian. Please pray that wisdom will prevail and that the children might be placed in a wonderful Christian, 2 parent home. The boy is 8 years old the girl is in 6.
Prayer Request From Kelsee Keitel

Please pray for my dad, Steve. After 8 months of remission from stage 4 cancer, it has returned, but in a dangerous location this time. We have limited and risky options. His quality of life is already very very poor due to the last treatment, and he is struggling with depression & suicidal thoughts. There are many things to pray, but my biggest request is that he would come to know Jesus through this no matter the cost, and that the Lord would be glorified even in our suffering.
